RSC Africa seeks qualified individuals for the 2015 summer internship program.  All internships are a minimum of six and a maximum of twelve weeks in duration.  All interns must be prepared to start on Tuesday, June 2nd, 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya.

RSC Africa does not provide airfare or travel assistance but does provide shared accommodation and a small living stipend for interns selected from outside of Kenya.  Interns selected from within Kenya receive a nominal daily transportation allowance.

Primary Purpose

This position is responsible for assisting the CWS Regional Representative and Program Coordinators in identifying and securing funding for programs that will enhance the CWS Relief Development and Protection (RDP) program operations and augment USG funding for CWS Africa RDP. The position also provides administrative support as needed.


The position reports to the Regional Representative with frequent direct engagement with the Program Coordinators.

Essential Duties

  1. Assist with RDP funding search and/or start up activities as needed.
  2. Coordinate with the RDP team to compile a history of CWS in Africa organized by country and location.
  3. Take notes of meetings, with special focus on action items, attended by the Regional Representative or as requested by senior management.
  4. Assist in the collection and analysis of information from RDP staff on additional supportive services required for improving the RDP operation (i.e. LGBTI, WASH, Education, Livelihood, community development, etc.)
  5. Through on-line research, further identify funding sources that have a documented interest in CWS’ priority locations and sectors.
  6. Provide assistance and support in the developing of funding proposals as needed, with Kenya, Uganda and other strategic locations.
  7. Perform other duties that may be assigned by senior management including participation in field assessments, monitoring and evaluation activities.
  8. Submit brief email updates to the Representative on or before Friday at noon of each week throughout the internship period.


Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study required including but not limited to International Studies, Climate Change, Community Development, or Refugee Studies.

Master’s degree or coursework in a related field of study is preferred.

Experience working in program development preferred.
Experience writing proposals and/or fundraising preferred.
ESL and/or other experience with refugee & immigrant populations preferred.

Working Conditions

Physical:  This position requires sitting, standing, walking, pushing/pulling, handling objects (manual dexterity) and using fine finger movements.

Environmental: Normal office working conditions.

Special Requirements

Background check which includes references and an educational criminal check or Certificate of Good Conduct is required before the start of internship.
