Situation report: Eastern Europe weather

Situation:

More than 120 people, many homeless, have died in recent days due to recent frigid temperatures in eastern Europe.  The weather has also stranded people in Serbia and Bosnia, where snow levels have trapped residents in villages.  Elsewhere in eastern Europe, the cold has closed schools and airports, paralyzing parts of the region.

Sub-zero temperatures have gripped the region in recent weeks; in the Ukraine, the temperature has dropped to -32.5 centigrade (-26.5 Fahrenheit ), the Guardian newspaper reported.

CWS response:

CWS is intending to respond with relief in Serbia and Moldova; specifics of the response (and a planned appeal) will be available in the coming days.
