In December 2012, the Rev. John D. Stirewalt joined the CWS Southeast Area Office as the new assistant regional director.
A native of North Carolina, John has lived and worked in several states in the Southeast, most recently as the pastor of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Tampa, Fla. Prior to that, he was senior pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Nashville, Tenn., while also serving as secretary of the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
No stranger to CWS, John was recruited to coordinate the Nashville CROP Hunger Walk, and under his leadership the Walk increased in participation and fundraising each year. The exceptional skills John has demonstrated in relationship-building, volunteer cultivation and resource development throughout his 25 years of pastoral leadership are welcome complements to CWS’s ongoing work to eradicate hunger and poverty.
Ordained in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, John earned his Master of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary in Columbia, S.C., and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C.
John, his wife, Debbie, and daughters Hannah and Clara live in Salisbury, N.C.
